A few reminders for all players/coaches/parents during playoffs:

  • Tie breaking formula:
    • All games will go to a shoot-out in the case of a tie at the end of regulation time.
    • Minimum of 3 shooters, then sudden death.
  • To decide playoff positions, ties in standings will be broken as indicated below:
    • If two teams are tied:
      1. Team with the least number of penalty minutes.
      2. Least goals against.
    • Each team must have a goalie for the start/duration of each game. Any team without a goalie will default the game and the score will be recorded as a 5-0 defeat. There is goalie equipment available at the arena for use during each game if a team does not have a designated goalie;
    • Please ensure your player is present and ready to play each game;
    • The final games will be posted after the Sunday March 18 games are completed.

Congratulations to our Novice Gold team

Our Downsview Novice Gold team participated in the 14th Annual Ottawa Senators Novice Holiday Classic from December 15-17. The team played a total of 6 games including 3 games on Sunday. The team beat the Peterborough Petes Novice team in the quarter-finals before upending the Whitby Wildcats in the semi-finals.
The final was played against the Clarington Toros. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time. The 5 minute 3 vs 3 overtime period did not produce a winner. The teams went to a shoot-out where Clarington eventually won 1-0.
It was a wonderful effort for our Novice Gold team. The entire team had a great weekend.
Congratulations Downsview Novice Gold players, coaches and parents!!!

For more information on the Downsview Hockey League, please see our 2017 brochure here.

The Downsview Hockey Club has been a proud supporter of Minor Hockey in our community since 1957. This season we will commemorate the club’s 60th anniversary by reintroducing the spirit of Community, Player Development and Respectful Competition in sport. Our mission is to develop the skill of young athletes and their appreciation of teamwork in a fun, community-centered environment through our partnership with Hockey Canada, the North York Hockey League, the Greater Toronto Hockey League, and McDonalds Canada.

Skating and hockey skills are not only an integral part of a player’s development, these skills can be directly linked to the fun a young athlete has while playing the game.  With this in mind the Downsview Hockey House League program will institute a skills development session, in place of practices, in order to ensure that each player has the opportunity to learn from Certified Instructors.   Volunteers/Coaches will continue to play an integral role in the development of game knowledge, they will be coaching each game, and supporting player’s development.

We would also like to thank all those who volunteer their time, because without them we could not give the children in and around our community the joy of hockey.  We are also always looking for people to fill volunteer positions throughout the Downsview Hockey Club. If you are interested, please contact us directly.
